Took delivery of my new thicknesser this afternoon from Axminster Power Tool Centre (http://www.axminster.co.uk)). For those of you not in the know, it is a very useful device for ensuring that the timber thickness is uniform for the whole length of the piece. You can run any length from 12-15 inches to as long as you like. I’ve heard tales of open windows with lengths of freshly planed timber running out into the garden.

At my previous residence I had to have the door open to plane anything longer than 4 feet as my workshop was so small. I used to use my combination machine for this but could not run anything less than about 3 feet long as it got a

bit dangerous putting your hands too close to the cutters. Whirling, razor sharp 12″ blades are not the sort of device you want to try trimming your finger nails with. Anyway I’ve set it up and will be trying it out in the very near future.
