Is it a pill box? Yes, from the shape; or is it a hat box? Maybe, but then again I think it too small for the latter and you’d have to be taking a lot of health and vitamin tablets to fill this little number.

A break from my normally straight sided boxes, I had two end cuts of maple from a longer plank, so best use was to turn them round on the lathe. It is quite a skill to turn decorative boxes on a lathe and I have seen some truly amazing items; my skill level on a 1–10 is about 2, but this didn’t turn out too badly. Size 15cm dia and with lid on 5cm high.
